We look back from the sidewalk along University Avenue (at left) and down the stairs (right). Also see 2008 update photo. University Avenue is rideable by skilled, adult bicyclists, despite the on- and off-ramps for I-80, but bicyclists are prohibited from riding this part of it. Shortly before I shot this picture, I saw a bicyclist riding illegally across the overpass, but I was not quick enough with my camera. Darn! He was the only bicyclist I saw during my entire expedition. The complications and poor condition of the designated route go a long way to explain the low level of use, a situation which I understand has greatly changed with the construction of the new bicycle/pedestrrian overpass nearby.
